I will still post on Saturday but I wanted to update this post so I could enter Eva Mae's sweatshirt tunic in the Project Run and Play Sew-along!
A LACE SNOWFLAKE
I
bought a 3XL sweatshirt and cut it up to create this sweet little tunic
for Eva Mae. She was not happy to be outside in the cold so we didn't
take too many pictures! I waited to have our little photoshoot so that I
could get some snow in the pictures. This is our first snow of the
season and it wasn't much!
I rewarded her with a little candy cane when we went inside - she is much happier now! The pattern I used for the tunic is my
Cupcake Top.
I brought the sides out at an angle and made it just a little longer.
It was great to re-purpose the sweatshirt because not only did I have
the material for the tunic but I also could use the ribbing from the
sweatshirt for my neck binding. I also reused the sleeves and kept the
sleeve hems intact. Sewing t-shirts and sweatshirts is a quick project
when you re-purpose a larger size!
I
will admit a huge mistake I made....... I ironed the lace after
finishing the applique! I couldn't believe my lapse in judgement! I
had just finished putting Cloud Cover on the back of the applique and
turned the tunic right side out - the iron singed just a few parts of
the snowflake but I was able to repair with a few extra scraps of lace
and some Hot Fix crystals. And part of me is glad that I needed to find
a way to salvage the lace! I may not have thought to use my crystals!
I bought them a long time ago when they were on sale and I think they
add the perfect touch to this outfit!
