Big Island Board Shorts

I am thrilled that Melissa of Melly Sews (Blank Slate Patterns) asked her affiliates to test out the new Big Island Board Shorts (affiliate link)!  I am guilty of sewing more for my daughter and I jumped at the chance to test so that my little buddy could have something new for the summer!  (He was able bodied for the photoshoot but a few days later he broke his little leg!  Thankfully the cast only has to stay on 3 more weeks!)

These shorts are soooo cute and easy to put together!  If you want to try your hand at making your own swim trunks you should definitely get this pattern!

Christian was happy to model his new outfit for me!  I bought the fabric at JoAnn's - it's not specifically board short fabric (shop at the fabricfairy.com for good swim trunk fabric), but it's lighter than quilting cotton and feels like it will dry pretty quickly!

His shirt is a tank from Walmart with the Planet Applique gecko design!  He calls it his "wizard" shirt (I love it when little kids can't pronounce their "L" sounds! haha!)

He had fun with the props - he was pretending to catch a lizard in the bucket!

"Here it is, mommy!"

One of the options of the pattern is to sew a mesh liner inside!  I've never done this before but it is SUPER easy!!!  I've made plenty of diaper covers and it's basically the same thing only sewing with mesh.  At JoAnn's I found it in the utility fabric section.

If you do decide to purchase I would love it if you purchased through my affiliate link!

    1. Thanks, Heidi!! They were so easy to sew! I usually like to make my own bias tape but I was in a time crunch and just got store bought tape! :)
